    A aplica{\c c}{\~a}o da teoria da vulnerabilidade a redes de abastecimento de {\'a}gua reais {\'e} um procedimento complexo e moroso, tornando-se imperativo o desenvolvimento de uma ferramenta inform{\'a}tica que agilize e automatize esse processo. O programa de c{\'a}lculo autom{\'a}tico que est{\'a} a ser desenvolvido, designado por TV WPN (Theory of Vulnerability of Water Pipe Networks), constitui um importante est{\'\i}mulo {\`a} inclus{\~a}o do estudo da vulnerabilidade e da avalia{\c c}{\~a}o do risco na conce{\c c}{\~a}o, dimensionamento e reabilita{\c c}{\~a}o de sistemas de abastecimento de {\'a}gua.

    At{\'e} {\`a} data, a aplica{\c c}{\~a}o desta teoria restringia-se apenas a exemplos de teste correspondentes a redes fict{\'\i}cias de abastecimento de {\'a}gua, com geometria simples e um limitado n{\'u}mero de tro{\c c}os. Com esta nova ferramenta, tais limita{\c c}{\~o}es podem ser ultrapassadas, pois o tempo de computa{\c c}{\~a}o {\'e} significativamente mais r{\'a}pido, mesmo considerando redes reais complexas. Deste modo, o aprofundamento e valida{\c c}{\~a}o dos fundamentos desta teoria ganham um forte e decisivo impulso, permitindo explorar o seu promissor potencial de aplica{\c c}{\~a}o {\`a}s redes hidr{\'a}ulicas em geral, assumindo-se o novo paradigma da gest{\~a}o do risco em sistemas urbanos de {\'a}guas.

    About CTAC

    The Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC) is a research unit of the School of Engineering of University of Minho (UMinho), recognised by the “FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” (Foundation for Science and Technology), associated to the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC), with whom it shares resources and namely human resources.

    Currently CTAC aggregates 25 researchers holding a PhD of which 20 are faculty professors of the Civil Engineering Department. Read more
