faced by human society, this book encompasses a holistic way of perceiving the potential
of natural systems. Nature has developed several materials and processes which both
maintain an optimal performance and are also totally biodegradable, properties which
can be used in civil engineering. Delivering the latest research findings to building industry professionals and other practitioners, as well as containing information useful to the public, {\textquoteleft}Biotechnologies
and Biomimetics for Civil Engineering{\textquoteright} serves as an important tool to tackle the
challenges of a more sustainable construction industry and the future of buildings.
The Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC) is a research unit of the School of Engineering of University of Minho (UMinho), recognised by the “FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” (Foundation for Science and Technology), associated to the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC), with whom it shares resources and namely human resources.
Currently CTAC aggregates 25 researchers holding a PhD of which 20 are faculty professors of the Civil Engineering Department. Read more
