    O aumento da concentra{\c c}{\~a}o de nitrato nas {\'u}ltimas d{\'e}cadas em {\'a}guas superficiais e subterr{\^a}neas tem atra{\'\i}do aten{\c c}{\~a}o de pesquisadores e gestores de {\'a}guas em diferentes partes do mundo. O presente trabalho tem o objetivo de avaliar a rejei{\c c}{\~a}o de nitrato em diferentes membranas de ultrafiltra{\c c}{\~a}o e nanofiltra{\c c}{\~a}o para o uso em sistemas de tratamento de {\'a}gua de abastecimento. Para a avalia{\c c}{\~a}o de remo{\c c}{\~a}o de nitrato pelo sistema de UF e NF, foram utilizadas amostras de {\'a}gua sint{\'e}tica com uma concentra{\c c}{\~a}o de nitrato (NO3-) de 50 mg.L-1 ({\'a}gua de osmose com nitrato de s{\'o}dio). Foram avaliadas quatro membranas filtrantes, duas de nanofiltra{\c c}{\~a}o e duas de ultrafiltra{\c c}{\~a}o, o desenvolvimento dos ensaios foi realizado com o m{\'o}dulo de membrana modelo HP4750 da STERLITECH{\textregistered}. As reten{\c c}{\~o}es mais relevantes foram obtidas com a membrana de nanofiltra{\c c}{\~a}o (NF {\textendash} TS 80) (\> 80\% de reten{\c c}{\~a}o) seguida da membrana de ultrafiltra{\c c}{\~a}o (UF GE {\textendash} 1 kDa) (\> 60\% de reten{\c c}{\~a}o). Devido a menor resistividade da membrana de ultrafiltra{\c c}{\~a}o juntamente com o menor custo envolvido no processo de filtra{\c c}{\~a}o, conclui-se que a membrana de ultrafiltra{\c c}{\~a}o de 1 kDa foi a que melhor se adequou {\`a} remo{\c c}{\~a}o de nitrato.\

    The Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC) is a research unit of the School of Engineering of University of Minho (UMinho), recognised by the “FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” (Foundation for Science and Technology), associated to the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC), with whom it shares resources and namely human resources.
