    No planeamento e gest{\~a}o de meios h{\'\i}dricos, a reprodu{\c c}{\~a}o consistente e simplificadora de realidades muito complexas atrav{\'e}s de modelos matem{\'a}ticos (simula{\c c}{\~a}o, optimiza{\c c}{\~a}o, decis{\~a}o, sistemas periciais, SIG) t{\^e}m-se revelado muito prof{\'\i}cua e dado um contributo inestim{\'a}vel como suporte ao processo de decis{\~a}o.

    O estudo da hidrodin{\^a}mica dos sistemas fluviais em ambiente urbano sob v{\'a}rias condi{\c c}{\~o}es hidrol{\'o}gicas, al{\'e}m de indispens{\'a}vel {\`a} sua gest{\~a}o integrada e sustent{\'a}vel, traduz-se numa importante mais-valia para a previs{\~a}o e avalia{\c c}{\~a}o de potenciais impactos negativos associados {\`a} ocorr{\^e}ncia de inunda{\c c}{\~o}es e de degrada{\c c}{\~a}o da qualidade da {\'a}gua, que podem implicar graves problemas de sa{\'u}de p{\'u}blica, a perdas de bens materiais e o aumento do risco de perda de vidas humanas.

    Este estudo iniciou-se coma realiza{\c c}{\~a}o de um conjunto de tarefas relacionadas com a recolha, organiza{\c c}{\~a}o e an{\'a}lise de informa{\c c}{\~a}o de base necess{\'a}ria para o desenvolvimento conceptual do modelo hidrodin{\^a}mico, a qual foi posteriormente compilada numa base de dados.

    Com a an{\'a}lise dos resultados obtidos para os v{\'a}rios cen{\'a}rios simulados, pretendeu-se n{\~a}o s{\'o} identificar os trechos mais sens{\'\i}veis e quantificar as cotas atingidas pela superf{\'\i}cie livre nessas sec{\c c}{\~o}es transversais para os caudais de cheia considerados, mas tamb{\'e}m estimar o valor do caudal a partir do qual se esgota a capacidade de vaz{\~a}o das sec{\c c}{\~o}es localizadas em zonas urbanas consideradas problem{\'a}ticas.

    O conhecimento baseado nos dados e conclus{\~o}es deste estudo, suportados pelos resultados da modela{\c c}{\~a}o hidrodin{\^a}mica efectuada, permitem a fundamenta{\c c}{\~a}o e a eventual prioriza{\c c}{\~a}o de propostas de interven{\c c}{\~a}o no leito da ribeira, visando mitigar as consequ{\^e}ncias da ocorr{\^e}ncia de situa{\c c}{\~o}es de cheia atrav{\'e}s do aumento da sua capacidade de vaz{\~a}o nos trechos mais problem{\'a}ticos.\

    About CTAC

    The Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC) is a research unit of the School of Engineering of University of Minho (UMinho), recognised by the “FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” (Foundation for Science and Technology), associated to the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC), with whom it shares resources and namely human resources.

    Currently CTAC aggregates 25 researchers holding a PhD of which 20 are faculty professors of the Civil Engineering Department. Read more
