    Umas das principais fragilidades da constru{\c c}{\~a}o em terra {\'e} a sua durabilidade face {\`a} a{\c c}{\~a}o da {\'a}gua, seja pelas chuvas, inunda{\c c}{\~o}es ou ascens{\~a}o da {\'a}gua por capilaridade, situa{\c c}{\~o}es que acontecem sobretudo em pa{\'\i}ses com elevado {\'\i}ndice de pluviosidade. Contudo, as constru{\c c}{\~o}es vernaculares t{\^e}m demonstrado que {\'e} poss{\'\i}vel construir de forma dur{\'a}vel, apesar de este conhecimento parecer ter sido esquecido ao longo dos anos. Por outro lado tamb{\'e}m t{\^e}m sido desenvolvidas novas tecnologias para compacta{\c c}{\~a}o, estabiliza{\c c}{\~a}o e impermeabiliza{\c c}{\~a}o de solos para melhorar a durabilidade da constru{\c c}{\~a}o em terra. Todavia, a sustentabilidade da solu{\c c}{\~a}o construtiva pode ser comprometida pelo uso excessivo de cimento ou materiais excessivamente impermeabilizantes. Neste artigo, pretende-se identificar e avaliar estrat{\'e}gias para prote{\c c}{\~a}o face {\`a} a{\c c}{\~a}o da {\'a}gua que t{\^e}m sido utilizadas desde a Antiguidade at{\'e} aos nossos dias. Deste modo, ser{\'a} poss{\'\i}vel perceber como in{\'u}meros edif{\'\i}cios constru{\'\i}dos em terra foram preservados ao longo de s{\'e}culos, resistindo a condi{\c c}{\~o}es clim{\'a}ticas severas.

    About CTAC

    The Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC) is a research unit of the School of Engineering of University of Minho (UMinho), recognised by the “FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” (Foundation for Science and Technology), associated to the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC), with whom it shares resources and namely human resources.

    Currently CTAC aggregates 25 researchers holding a PhD of which 20 are faculty professors of the Civil Engineering Department. Read more
