    A arquitetura vern{\'a}cula carateriza-se por apresentar uma estreita rela{\c c}{\~a}o com as condi{\c c}{\~o}es dos locais onde se encontra inserida {\textemdash} clima, materiais, economia, cultura, entre outros. O contexto portugu{\^e}s {\'e} profuso nas manifesta{\c c}{\~o}es arquitet{\'o}nicas vern{\'a}culas e no leque de estrat{\'e}gias passivas usadas nas diferentes regi{\~o}es para favorecer os efeitos ben{\'e}ficos do clima e para mitigar os efeitos nefastos do mesmo. As estrat{\'e}gias de adapta{\c c}{\~a}o ao meio envolvente presentes nestas constru{\c c}{\~o}es, caraterizadas pela simplicidade, funcionamento passivo e reduzido impacte ambiental, s{\~a}o particularmente relevantes para os desafios que a constru{\c c}{\~a}o contempor{\^a}nea enfrenta, permitindo a redu{\c c}{\~a}o da depend{\^e}ncia em energia de fontes n{\~a}o-renov{\'a}veis. Neste artigo {\'e} apresentado um conjunto de estrat{\'e}gias solares passivas usadas em edif{\'\i}cios vern{\'a}culos de duas zonas clim{\'a}ticas distintas - o Alto Alentejo e o Minho - e {\'e} avaliado o desempenho t{\'e}rmico dos mesmos durante as esta{\c c}{\~o}es do ano {\`a}s quais as estrat{\'e}gias pretendem responder. Do estudo {\'e} poss{\'\i}vel afirmar que as estrat{\'e}gias de arrefecimento passivo s{\~a}o eficazes para garantir as condi{\c c}{\~o}es de conforto durante o ver{\~a}o sem o aux{\'\i}lio de sistemas mec{\^a}nicos de climatiza{\c c}{\~a}o; e que a in{\'e}rcia t{\'e}rmica forte dos casos de estudo permite que as temperaturas interiores sejam mais est{\'a}veis que as exteriores.

    The Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC) is a research unit of the School of Engineering of University of Minho (UMinho), recognised by the “FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” (Foundation for Science and Technology), associated to the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC), with whom it shares resources and namely human resources.

    Currently CTAC aggregates 25 researchers holding a PhD of which 20 are faculty professors of the Civil Engineering Department. Read more
