    	abstract = {A madeira, enquanto material de constru{\c c}{\~a}o, j{\'a} ocupou no passado um lugar de destaque. Contudo, o aparecimento de outros materiais, como o a{\c c}o e o bet{\~a}o, levou quase ao seu abandono total para fins estruturais. Excep{\c c}{\~a}o a esta tend{\^e}ncia viveu-se nos pa{\'\i}ses do Norte e Centro da Europa, sendo exemplo o sistema construtivo {\textquotedblleft}Log-house{\textquotedblright}. Este sistema construtivo consiste na constru{\c c}{\~a}o de paredes atrav{\'e}s da sobreposi{\c c}{\~a}o de troncos de sec{\c c}{\~a}o circular ou rectangular, geralmente possuindo nas faces superior e inferior um entalhe de forma a aumentar a superf{\'\i}cie de contacto e a estabilidade. As paredes que constituem este sistema construtivo conferem-lhe resist{\^e}ncia estrutural e estabilidade face {\`a}s ac{\c c}{\~o}es verticais e horizontais, quer no seu plano, quer no plano perpendicular. A resist{\^e}ncia {\`a}s ac{\c c}{\~o}es verticais depende da {\'a}rea de contacto entre os toros e da resist{\^e}ncia {\`a} compress{\~a}o perpendicular {\`a}s fibras da madeira, enquanto as ac{\c c}{\~o}es horizontais perpendiculares ao plano da parede ser{\~a}o suportadas pelas paredes transversais, dependendo a estabilidade das paredes a ac{\c c}{\~o}es horizontais no seu plano do atrito desenvolvido nos entalhes que cada toro possui e da resist{\^e}ncia oferecida pelas paredes ortogonais. Face {\`a} falta de conhecimento do comportamento destas constru{\c c}{\~o}es em caso de ocorr{\^e}ncia de um sismo, pretende-se, com o presente trabalho, avaliar numericamente o seu comportamento face {\`a} ac{\c c}{\~a}o s{\'\i}smica, recorrendo-se para tal a modelos simplificados. Estas an{\'a}lises baseiam-se nos resultados e conclus{\~o}es de uma campanha de ensaios experimentais realizada previamente, com o objectivo de estudar o comportamento no plano das paredes comercializadas pela empresa Rusticasa, quando sujeitas a ac{\c c}{\~o}es monot{\'o}nicas e c{\'\i}clicas.},

    About CTAC

    The Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC) is a research unit of the School of Engineering of University of Minho (UMinho), recognised by the “FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” (Foundation for Science and Technology), associated to the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC), with whom it shares resources and namely human resources.

    Currently CTAC aggregates 25 researchers holding a PhD of which 20 are faculty professors of the Civil Engineering Department. Read more
