    O desenvolvimento da anemometria laser Doppler (LDA-Laser Doppler Anemometry) teve um impacto significativo na investiga{\c c}{\~a}o nas {\'a}reas da Mec{\^a}nica dos Fluidos e da Hidr{\'a}ulica, obtendo desde o in{\'\i}cio de um bom acolhimento por parte da comunidade cient{\'\i}fica. As caracter{\'\i}sticas desta t{\'e}cnica de medi{\c c}{\~a}o (n{\~a}o intrusiva, com elevada resolu{\c c}{\~a}o temporal e espacial) foram determinantes para o aprofundar do conhecimento dos escoamentos de fluidos, o que vem sendo realizado desde o in{\'\i}cio dos anos setenta. A anemometria laser Doppler foi e {\'e}, tamb{\'e}m, o complemento ideal para as t{\'e}cnicas de computa{\c c}{\~a}o num{\'e}rica que o in{\'\i}cio da era digital trouxe ao estudo dos fluidos, porquanto permite uma aproxima{\c c}{\~a}o euleriana aos problemas de Hidr{\'a}ulica. Desde cedo, o Laborat{\'o}rio de Hidr{\'a}ulica, da Sec{\c c}{\~a}o de Hidr{\'a}ulica, Recursos H{\'\i}dricos e Ambiente, da Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto apostou nesta t{\'e}cnica para realizar estudos cient{\'\i}ficos que permitiram aprofundar o conhecimento dos fen{\'o}menos de escoamento de fluidos, nas mais diversas {\'a}reas. Neste artigo ser{\~a}o apresentados v{\'a}rios exemplos correspondentes a estudos enquadrados em teses de doutoramento, realizadas neste Laborat{\'o}rio ou com a sua colabora{\c c}{\~a}o.

    The Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC) is a research unit of the School of Engineering of University of Minho (UMinho), recognised by the “FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” (Foundation for Science and Technology), associated to the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC), with whom it shares resources and namely human resources.
