    Abstract

    System and method to calculate routes comprising the steps of obtaining polygons with attributes of air and noise pollution from hourly maps (pollution map), wherein each polygon corresponds to a class of air and noise pollution from a predefined number of classes of air and noise pollution; split each segment of the road network  in sub-segments by the intersection with those polygons (distance contamination model); determine the corrected distance of the sub-segments, by applying to the actual distance of each sub-segment noise (K) and air pollution (W) multipliers obtained through the known average value of the respective class of pollution (contaminated distances map); calculate the route, considering the sub-segments with the corrected distances, which minimizes the total corrected distance (navigation) to obtain the desired routes (healthy route, less noisy route, less air polluted route).

    About CTAC

    The Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC) is a research unit of the School of Engineering of University of Minho (UMinho), recognised by the “FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” (Foundation for Science and Technology), associated to the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC), with whom it shares resources and namely human resources.
