    Abstract

The progresses in the access to safe drinking water worldwide imply the need for adequate infrastructural asset management in order to protect public health. Notwithstanding assuring drinking water quality is of paramount interest for public health protection technical and economic difficulties seldom arise. Water safety plan is a novel concept for risk assessment and risk management throughout the water cycle from the catchments to the point of consumption. This paper presents a methodological approach that includes the identification of hazards and the introduction of control points that serve to minimize these potential hazards in a catchment, providing for more effective control of drinking water quality.
