    Abstract

    Nowadays, the majority of the world’s population lives in urban areas. According to the United Nations study “World Urbanization Prospects: The 2018 Revision”, in the year of 2050 this number will increase more 13%. Therefore, cities need to be prepared to accommodate this scenario. Phenomena such as gentrification, peripheralization, construction in risk areas, among other environmental and social issues, are likely to grow if there are no strategic processes to mitigate or even dissipate them. Resilience prepares, adapts, resists and recovers from any kind of adversity. A resilient city is inclusive, safe and offers quality of life. This article addresses the challenges of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number 11 (SDG 11) “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable” proposing a methodology for the strategic planning of urban resilience, in order to train and guide municipal managers in decision-making, elaboration of action plans and monitoring them.

    About CTAC

    The Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC) is a research unit of the School of Engineering of University of Minho (UMinho), recognised by the “FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” (Foundation for Science and Technology), associated to the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC), with whom it shares resources and namely human resources.

    Currently CTAC aggregates 25 researchers holding a PhD of which 20 are faculty professors of the Civil Engineering Department. Read more
