    A Acústica, como disciplina que estuda o som devido a vibrações elásticas nos gases, tem o seu início perdido nas páginas da história. Nos seus primórdios, como todas as ciências, a Acústica encontrava-se associada a conceitos filosóficos relativamente próximos da magia e de determinados rituais místicos. O filósofo chinês Fohi, no século 30 A. C., relacionou a altura dos tons aos cinco elementos fundamentais: Terra, Ar, Fogo, Água e Vento.
    Numa perspectiva estritamente musical os Indus dividiram uma oitava em 22 tons e os Árabes em 17. Segundo se julga, parece que foram os gregos, no tempo de Pitágoras, que desenvolveram a escala harmónica.

    About CTAC

    The Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC) is a research unit of the School of Engineering of University of Minho (UMinho), recognised by the “FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” (Foundation for Science and Technology), associated to the Department of Civil Engineering (DEC), with whom it shares resources and namely human resources.

    Currently CTAC aggregates 37 researchers holding a PhD of which 27 are faculty professors of the Civil Engineering Department. Read more
