    Abstract

Tourism represents an important activity to different destinations. International research on destination image has been undertaken for four decades now, but in Brazil, studies about Tourism Destination Image are still scarce, especially considering the residents’ image perception. A quantitative approach was developed, in 2014, in order to identify the residents’ image of the Joinville city, based on the application of questionnaire surveys to 498 residents. The results evidence that the residents say that tourism is good for Joinville, but there is a lack of publicity and tourist attractions are few. It is also important to note that Joinville is a city with multi attributes such as Dance, Bicycles, Flowers, but most of the residents (60,2%) identified Joinville as Dance City. The results allow us to recommend that the administrators of the municipality of Joinville consider the residents’ perception, especially regarding the infrastructures and municipal promotion.
